KNAUF GROUP INTERNATIONAL (GERMANY) SET TO BUILD A $70M FACTORY IN IBEJU LEKKI, LAGOS, NIGERIA.

I was privileged to be the Solicitor on site with my Client Chief Tony Peters Onyeakusi to receive Mrs. Isabel Knauf , The Group MD, Knauf Group International, Germany, as she arrived Nigeria for site inspection, building Contract signing and commencement of the project for the Proposed $70M(Seventy Million United States Dollar) FACTORY to be situated within the Free Trade Zone axis,(IBEJU LEKKI LGA,LAGOS.)

I recalled sometime last year, Sept 24th, 2015 precisely, when the German Ambassador, Mr. Michael Zenner, led a group of German diplomats and investors on a courtesy visit to The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode at the Lagos House, Alausa, Lagos.

Mrs. Isabel Knauf solicited the support of the Governor towards locating a $70 Million Dollars building and construction tools manufacturing company in Lagos.

She said that the preference for Lagos was informed by it’s proximity to ports, availability of gas pipeline and ready market.

The Ambassador, canvassed for increased presence of German businesses in Lagos and to improve bilateral trade relations with the state government.

To God be the Glory, the visit of Sept  24th, 2015 has finally come to be. Knauf  Group International (Germany)  is now fully set to commence construction of its factory in IBEJU LEKKI, LAGOS.

The gas pipeline to the refinery runs from Bonny through Ogedegbe, Olokola down to Lekki and Escravos, Lagos pipeline and the West African Gas Pipeline that is inaccessible and not prone to vandalisation or sabotage.

Being that the refinery is integrated with a petrochemical plant, a fertilizer plant and a subsea pipeline project, it is said that by all projections, it is the largest in the world. It has been described as an incredible industrial undertaking, possibly, the largest and most ambitious on the continent.

This project would create some 235,000 jobs both direct and indirect, and would not only boost the economy of Lagos and Nigeria but also Ibeju-Lekki with its multiplier effect.

LEKKI DEEP SEA PORT:

The Lekki deep sea port is a $1.65 BILLION project that will transform Lagos Nigeria and its host community Ibeju-Lekki into an economic global recognition. It was revealed that the   Seaport would be the deepest seaport in West Africa and second in Africa after South Africa deep port, additionally, the port would create more jobs and attract investment worth over $25B [Twenty-five Billion Dollars]. This project is expected to be fully operational in 2018. The Port at Lekki will be able to handle around 6 million TEUs of containers, together with a significant volume of liquid and dry bulk cargoes. The port will have three container berths equipped to handle more than 1.8 million TEUs, one berth for dry bulk and two berths for liquid cargo.

The Lekki Deep Sea Port, which is located in the heart of the Lagos Free Trade Zone (LTFZ) will have a project capacity of 2.7 million TEUs per annum.

THE NEW INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT:

Undoubtedly, one of the important projects of any country in the world is the country’s international airport, because it is a place of first point of call to foreigners. The new international airport is a multi-billion Naira project located in the Ibeju-Lekki/Lekki Free Trade Zone, LFTZ of the state.

The $450million Lekki international airport which is currently undergoing development is situated at about 10km from Lekki Free Trade Zone (LFTZ)on a 3,000 hectares of land on the Ibeju-Lekki axis, the airport was designed to cater for wide-body, double-deck, four engine aircraft which have capacity for up to 500 seats, such as the Airbus A380 making it a Code F compliant airport with capacity for two million passengers per annum for a start. This airport will attract and drive urban development and tourism into the Ibeju-Lekki axis of Lagos State.

THE FOURTH MAINLAND BRIDGE:

The 4th Mainland Bridge is also an ongoing project that will complement the 3rd Mainland Bridge, the essence of this is to cater for the massive shift of development coming into Ibeju-Lekki area and would go a long way to boost the economy of the generality of Nigeria and investors.

The fourth mainland bridge will run from Ajah to Ikorodu, Isawo, Ojodu, Ikeja and connecting back to the Ibadan expressway with the 3rd Mainland Bridge.

WORLD CLASS PARK:

The Lagos State Government has commenced work on the construction of a Metropolitan Park on a 5-hectares parcel of land at Ayeteju in Ibeju-Lekki, along the Lekki-Epe Expressway. The proposed recreational park will serve the general population of Ibeju-Lekki and its environs. When it is completely finished, it will be the biggest and greatest publicly owned park in sub-Saharan Africa, and will include a small zoo, playing zone of youngsters, wellness Center, multipurpose amusement court, and different features.

LAKOWE GOLF COURSE:

Lakowe Lakes is in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, It forms part of the larger  “New Lagos” development project, which  has been intended to be a fully integrated, self-sustaining municipality. Lakowe Lakes Golf and Country Estate is an exclusive 308-hectare residential development set within a scenic countryside around an 18-hole world-class golf course. The estate provides premium plots to house residences detached and townhomes, and corporate lodges.
